We’re currently looking for a Senior Backend Developer to add to our hi-impact team. Reporting to the Engineering Manager, the ideal candidate will have strong experience in the development, testing, and implementation of new projects and features. You will interact with peers from all areas of the business to ensure new web features help improve the customer experience, marketing, and operations.
This is a great learning experience for someone that is looking to further their software development skills in a high-growth environment. Upcoming projects that you will lead on include the development of an exciting new production automation project (currently at concept phase). We’re also totally revamping a lot of our core technologies. There are a variety of other great feature and engineering projects in the pipeline that you will take a lead on building.
Mission
Your mission is to develop and maintain fast, reliable back-end applications by taking ownership of server-side business logic and the database layer.
Accountability, Goals, and Outcomes
- Implement product initiatives using software development best practices with 100% test coverage for all new code contributions.
- Develop highly performant new API endpoints (under 100ms response time) and take initiatives to improve at least 5 existing slow endpoints by 30th September 2021.
- Improve the technology ENPS (employee net promoter score) from 25% to 75% by 31st December 2021.
- Contribute to increasing unit test coverage from 45% to 75% of all code by 31st December 2022.
- Proactively identify and resolve issues reported in logging and monitoring tools such as New Relic and Sentry. Reduce the quarter on quarter reported issue count by 20%.
- Contribute to the development / maintenance of internal tools for productivity and automation; deliver at least 2 such initiatives by 30th June 2022.
What We’re Looking For (Competencies)
- A minimum of 4-5 years PHP experience
- A minimum of 2-3 years Laravel or Symfony experience
- Experience with architecting and delivering application/ MySQL database architectures and RESTful API
- Experience with unit, functional, and integration tests using PHPUnit or other equivalent frameworks
- Experience with AWS, Docker, CI/CD and DevOps highly valued
- Exposure to VueJS would be a plus
- Bachelor’s degree in computer science, computer engineering, or similar
- Strong communication skills: you possess the ability to communicate complex problems in a simple and effective way
- Have worked in an agile and fast-paced environment (ideally at an e-commerce or logistics company)
- Fluent written and spoken English
