The Department of Student Affairs seeks an incumbent for the position of Senior Student Career Development Counselor to take the lead in the development and delivery of career education, counselling and guidance offering individual and group counselling. Establishes and delivers career development and employability workshops and training programs appropriate for students and graduates. Manages the Career Resource Center coordinating workshops, services and programs. Provide professional expertise in career planning programs and assessments.

KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES

  • Develops and delivers career education and guidance programs and training for Students and alumni.
  • Offers individual and group career counselling to help students make informed career and major decisions
  • Coordinates the Career Advocate Leaders Program to raise awareness and increase usage of the Alumni & Student Careers Office
  • Identifies needs, develops and delivers employability training to increase the employment chances of ZU students and graduates
  • Provides advice and guidance on career planning to students entering: On Campus Student Employment program, internships and graduate employment
  • Provides expertise in career education and counselling and identifies new innovations and initiatives to ensure services and program meet both national and international standards.
  • Devise and write career resources for the Career Portal ensuring it is up to date and relevant for all student levels, including information on career paths, decision-making, job-seeking, educational opportunities, and the regional labor market.
  • Utilizes career-related software programs and diagnostic assessments to support students and graduates with career decision making.
  • Establishes a calendar of workshops related to career education and job readiness. Respond to requests for workshops from faculty. Tailors workshops to the needs of specific student groups at various stages of their career journey
  • Collects, analyses and/or utilizes appropriate labor market information in a manner that advances career education programs and University curriculum. 
  • Works closely with University Faculty and Staff to incorporate career exploration, decision making and employment readiness skills into the curriculum.
  • Coordinates and/or supports Alumni & Student Careers Office events related to career education. These include, but are not limited to Majors Day, On/Off Campus Career Fairs, etc.
  • Reviews and approves student and graduate CVs to ensure they meet the required professional standard expected in the labor market
  • Independently and professionally presents Zayed University career service programs to students, faculty and others as required.
  • Able to effectively develop initiatives that address cultural issues related to National women exploring career options, making career decision and/or entering the workforce.
  • Represents the University in a professional manner to both internal and external audiences
  • Works with all levels of university personnel, students, alumni, and the local communities
  • Collaborate with colleagues in Alumni & Student Careers Office and Student Affairs to ensure programs and initiatives are integrated and supported.
  • Performs projects or tasks as directed by reporting line.

·        Interacts extensively with senior management, faculty and staff to educate, influence, and build awareness of key issues and propose solutions.

·        Interacts with external entities including Alumni, Employers and other Opportunity Providers

EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS

 Must possess bachelor’s degree and recognized career counseling or training qualification from an accreditation institution and a minimum of 7 years’ experience in a related field, or an equivalent combination of education, skill or experience. Master’s degree is highly preferred.

 

Other essential requirements:

•   Ability to administer and interpret career assessments

•   Ability to design, develop and deliver careers and employability training sessions to students and graduates

•   High level communication and diplomacy skills necessary to work with students, faculty, alumni, and the local

  community in a professional manner.

• Bilingual (English/Arabic) is preferred.

• Higher education experience is preferred.
