Associate Urban Designer

 

Description:

Parsons is looking for a talented Associate Urban Designer to join our Master Planning team. In this role you will contribute to the delivery and leadership of complex urban development and masterplanning projects that shape the future of cities.

What You'll Be Doing
 

  • Lead Masterplanning and Urban Design projects across multiple design stages (Pre-Concept, Concept and Detailed Masterplan).
  • Coordinate effectively with internal disciplines and external subconsultants to deliver coherent, integrated multi-disciplinary solutions.
  • Provide technical leadership and mentorship to urban designers within the team, supporting their professional development.
  • Perform and manage complex urban design and planning tasks including research, analysis, design development and preparation of technical documentation.
  • Review, monitor and ensure project outputs comply with local authority requirements, planning policies and international best practices.
  • Structure and coordinate the preparation of high-quality masterplans, reports, presentations and visual materials.
  • Analyse economic, social and spatial data to inform design strategies and planning decisions.
  • Develop technical inputs to support the delivery of high-quality plans, reports, and presentations.
  • Support engagement with clients, stakeholders and relevant authorities to translate development objectives into robust masterplanning strategies.
  • Support project leads in the preparation of technical inputs for new opportunities.

     

What Required Skills You'll Bring
 

  • Bachelor’s degree in Urban Planning, Architecture or closely related field.
  • Minimum 10 years of professional experience in urban planning and urban design consultancy.
  • Demonstrated experience in producing large-scale master plans, conceptual designs and illustrative layouts.
  • Strong understanding of urban design principles, planning frameworks and development processes.
  • Experience coordinating multi-disciplinary teams within complex project environments.
  • Creative thinking and in depth understanding of current best practices.
  • Thorough understanding of local statutes and planning rules and regulations.
  • Ability to involve and represent wide-range and diverse interests in the development planning and design process and to reconcile conflicting demands.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Proven ability for performing in a lead capacity on a project.
  • Proficiency in design and visualization tools such as AutoCAD, Adobe Creative Suite, SketchUp, Rhino or similar platforms.
