Description:
The role is based in Abu Dhabi and sits within a macro-focused research team supporting investment activity across emerging and frontier markets. The position is well suited to an economist with strong macroeconomic foundations who is looking to deepen their buy-side exposure, working closely with experienced portfolio managers and senior economists.
The role will focus on macroeconomic analysis across a range of African frontier and emerging markets, with an emphasis on economies across East, West, and Central Africa. Familiarity with, or interest in, additional frontier regions outside Africa would be viewed as a bonus
Key Responsibilities
- Deliver macroeconomic analysis across a defined set of African frontier and emerging markets
- Provide economic, political, and structural context to support regional investment views
- Forecast core macro variables including growth, inflation, fiscal positions, and external balances
- Analyse monetary policy frameworks and central bank reaction functions
- Evaluate the relationships between covered countries and developments in the global economy
- Contribute to investment discussions by translating macro insights into actionable perspectives
- Present country and thematic research to portfolio managers and the wider investment team
- Collaborate closely with colleagues across Abu Dhabi and other global offices
Key Skills
- 4-6 years’ experience in a macroeconomic analysis experience specifically within African countries
- Backgrounds from buy-side, sell-side, investment banks, research institutions, central banks, or hedge funds are all welcome
- Strong academic training in macroeconomics, economics, or a related quantitative discipline
- Solid quantitative and analytical capability, with experience using tools such as EViews, STATA, SPSS, and advanced Excel
- Clear communicator, comfortable presenting economic views to investment professionals
- High learning agility and the ability to operate in a fast-paced, intellectually demanding environment
- Fluency in English required; additional languages beneficial
