Description:

The Air Ambulance Nurse is responsible for providing advanced pre-hospital and in-flight medical care to patients during aeromedical evacuation and repatriation missions. Working alongside paramedics, physicians, and flight crew, the nurse ensures safe, timely, and compassionate transport of critically ill or injured individuals.

🧭 Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide critical care and life support during air transfers (fixed-wing or helicopter).
  • Conduct comprehensive pre-flight patient assessments and communicate care plans with sending and receiving facilities.
  • Ensure all medical equipment, medications, and supplies are prepared and functional pre-flight.
  • Deliver bed-to-bed care, including during ground ambulance transfers.
  • Maintain accurate medical documentation, charts, and handover reports.
  • Work collaboratively with pilots, medical escort teams, and hospital staff.
  • Administer medications, manage airways, IVs, ventilation, and emergency interventions.
  • Adhere to safety protocols, flight regulations, and infection control standards.
  • Maintain emotional composure and professionalism in high-stress, time-critical situations.
  • Participate in training, drills, and quality assurance reviews regularly.

✅ Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's or Diploma in Nursing from a recognized institution.
  • Valid RN license (India Nursing Council, DHA/HAAD/MOH for UAE, or relevant regulatory body).
  • Minimum 3–5 years of ICU/ER/critical care experience (mandatory).
  • BLS, ACLS & PALS/NRP certifications (current).
  • Experience in aeromedical evacuation or emergency transport (preferred).

🛫 Preferred Skills:

  • Excellent critical care and emergency decision-making skills.
  • Strong interpersonal and cross-cultural communication skills.
  • Ability to work in confined aircraft spaces and adapt to variable flight conditions.
  • Understanding of aviation physiology, altitude effects, and in-flight patient management.
  • Familiarity with air ambulance protocols and documentation (CAMTS/EURAMI standards ideal).

📌 Work Conditions:

  • Rotational or on-call shifts, including weekends, holidays, and night flights.
  • Exposure to trauma, infectious diseases, and extreme emotional situations.
  • Must be physically fit to lift and assist patients and medical gear in small aircraft cabins.
