Rock Salt Miner

Description:

We are seeking a physically fit, safety-conscious, and experienced Salt Miner / Rock Salt Miner to carry out extraction, processing, and material handling operations at our salt mining site. The successful candidate will perform drilling, blasting, cutting, and loading of rock salt deposits — working as part of a close-knit underground or surface operations team to meet production targets safely and efficiently. This is a hands-on, physically demanding role working closely with shift supervisors, equipment operators, maintenance crews, and site management to ensure continuous, safe, and productive mining operations.

Responsibilities

- Carry out rock salt extraction operations including drilling, blasting, mechanical cutting, and manual breaking as directed by the shift supervisor.
- Operate mining machinery and equipment such as continuous miners, loaders, conveyors, and haul vehicles in accordance with site procedures and safety protocols.
- Load extracted rock salt onto conveyors, hoppers, or haulage vehicles for transport to processing or storage areas.
- Inspect work areas, equipment, and ground conditions at the start of each shift; report hazards, defects, or unsafe conditions immediately.
- Assist with the installation and maintenance of ground support, ventilation systems, and drainage infrastructure as required.
- Comply with all occupational health, safety, and environmental regulations applicable to mining operations at all times.
- Participate in daily safety briefings, toolbox talks, and incident reporting procedures.
- Support equipment maintenance teams with basic servicing, cleaning, and pre-shift checks on assigned machinery.
- Assist with the stockpiling, grading, and quality sorting of extracted rock salt as directed.
- Maintain a clean, organized, and hazard-free work area throughout and at the end of each shift.

Qualifications

- Previous experience in underground or surface mining, quarrying, tunneling, or a comparable heavy industrial environment is strongly preferred.
- Familiarity with drilling, blasting, or mechanical cutting operations in a salt, potash, limestone, or similar evaporite or sedimentary mining context is an asset.
- Valid mining or blasting certification (or willingness to obtain upon hire) in accordance with local regulatory requirements.
- Ability to operate mining vehicles and equipment; valid heavy vehicle or equipment operator license preferred.
- Strong understanding of underground or surface mining safety practices, including personal protective equipment (PPE) use, emergency procedures, and hazard identification.
- Good physical fitness and ability to work in confined, underground, or outdoor environments in varying conditions.
- Reliable, punctual, and able to work rotating shifts including nights and weekends as required by production schedules.
- Ability to follow verbal and written instructions accurately; basic literacy and numeracy skills required.
- Team-oriented with a cooperative attitude and commitment to supporting colleagues and site operations.
- Experience working in remote or site-based accommodation arrangements is an asset.
