You will play a pivotal role at SeaWorld Abu Dhabi by delivering exceptional veterinary care to our diverse animal collection, including marine mammals, reptiles, birds, fish, and invertebrates. You will be instrumental in upholding our high standards of animal welfare while actively contributing to scientific advancements in marine animal health. Your duties will extend to providing essential medical support for the regional marine life rescue and rehabilitation efforts. In your leadership capacity, you’ll oversee animal welfare programs, engage in research initiatives, and foster a motivated Animal Health team. This role demands both clinical expertise and leadership, ensuring our mission of excellence in animal care and conservation is realized.
What You'll Do Animal Health Management
- Oversee and lead the comprehensive health management of all animals in residence, encompassing diagnosis, treatment of diseases, preventative medicine programs, nutrition, and animal welfare initiatives.
- Coordinate medical care for rescued wildlife species, including dugongs, sea turtles, cetaceans, and birds, within the rescue and rehabilitation framework.
- Collaborate with Zoological Directors to strategically manage the Animal Rescue Program while ensuring the well-being and recovery of marine life.
- Serve as a consultant and educator for colleagues, leadership, and the public on matters of animal health, welfare, and optimal husbandry practices.
- Conduct innovative animal health research projects, analyze findings, and prepare results for academic presentations and peer-reviewed publications.
Compliance & Field Participation
- Investigate and resolve any incidents related to noncompliance or safety concerns promptly, implementing corrective actions as necessary to maintain standards.
- Participate in fieldwork activities, including rescues, health assessments, and specialized research initiatives for various species.
- Take on additional responsibilities as directed by leadership to support the broader needs and operational goals of SeaWorld Abu Dhabi.
What We're Looking For Essential
- A Doctorate of Veterinary Medicine degree with the ability to obtain a license to practice in the UAE.
- Five years of verified experience in a zoo, aquarium, or oceanarium organization, which may include post-doctoral training or at least two full years of hands-on practical experience.
- Strong leadership, teamwork, and communication skills with proficiency in verbal and written English.
- In-depth knowledge of Computed Tomography (CT) and Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) technologies and their application in a professional setting.
- Familiarity with best practices and trends in the zoo/aquarium and animal conservation communities.
