General Insurance Underwriter

Description:

As a General Insurance Underwriter, you will assess and evaluate risks for various general insurance products such as motor, property, liability, travel, and commercial insurance. You’ll be responsible for making informed underwriting decisions, setting appropriate premiums, and ensuring that the terms of coverage align with the company's risk appetite and regulatory standards.

Key Responsibilities:

Evaluate new insurance proposals and renewals for general insurance products.

Analyze risk factors using statistical data, reports, and claims history.

Determine coverage terms, conditions, and premium rates.

Ensure compliance with underwriting guidelines, regulations, and company policies.

Negotiate terms with brokers, agents, and clients within authority limits.

Maintain accurate records of decisions and correspondence.

Monitor portfolio performance and recommend changes to pricing or coverage as necessary.

Collaborate with claims, sales, actuarial, and legal teams to manage risk exposure.

Assist in developing and updating underwriting policies and procedures.

Stay current with market trends, competitor offerings, and regulatory changes.

Key Skills & Qualifications:

Bachelor's degree in Insurance, Business, Finance, or a related field (CII certification is a plus).

2+ years of experience in general insurance underwriting or a similar role.

Strong analytical and decision-making skills.

Proficient in insurance software and MS Office Suite.

Good communication and negotiation skills.

Attention to detail and strong organizational abilities.

Knowledge of insurance regulations, policy wordings, and risk assessment
