Description:
As a Senior Electrician, you will take a lead role in maintaining, troubleshooting, and improving the vessel’s electrical and control systems. You will work across a wide range of integrated technologies, ensuring safe, efficient, and continuous operation of the vessel.
You will be responsible for the following systems:
- Power Systems: Generators, inverters, distribution boards, and electrical systems (AC and DC).
- Energy Storage: Battery systems, charging systems, and redundancy management.
- Control Systems: Vessel control system, PLCs, and electrical interfaces to propulsion and auxiliary systems.
- Navigation & Instrumentation: Integration and maintenance of navigation sensors and monitoring systems.
- Communication Systems: Electrical and network interfaces supporting IP-based control over 4G and SATCOMS.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead installation, maintenance, and fault-finding of all onboard electrical systems.
- Diagnose and resolve complex electrical and control system faults, including intermittent and system-level issues.
- Maintain and troubleshoot generators, power distribution systems, inverters, and battery systems.
- Support integration and commissioning of new electrical and control equipment.
- Ensure integrity and reliability of electrical interfaces with propulsion, navigation, and communication systems.
- Assist in developing maintenance procedures, fault logs, and system documentation.
- Support remote troubleshooting and provide technical guidance to operations teams when required.
Skills & Experience Required
- Strong hands-on experience with marine or industrial electrical systems.
- In-depth knowledge of AC/DC systems, power distribution, inverters, and battery technologies.
- Experience with control systems, PLCs, and system integration.
- Familiarity with IP-based systems and networked equipment.
- Excellent fault-finding and diagnostic skills across electrical and control systems.
- Ability to read and interpret electrical schematics and technical drawings.
- Ability to work independently and take ownership of complex technical issues.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience working on unmanned or autonomous vessels or similar remote systems.
- Marine electrical certification or relevant electrical engineering qualification.
- Experience with hybrid power systems or advanced energy storage solutions.
- Knowledge of marine classification or regulatory standards (e.g. RINA, IMO).
